Shay Patrick Cormac becomes a Templar and hunts his former allies in Assassin's Creed Rogue.

Shay begins the game as an Assassin operating in the North Atlantic during the eighteenth century. After a catastrophic mission connected to an Isu precursor site, he loses faith in the Brotherhood's methods and defects to the Templars. The story then presents the Assassin-Templar conflict from the viewpoint of someone pursuing his former comrades.

Shay is distinct from Haytham Kenway, who is a Templar protagonist at the beginning of Assassin's Creed III. Rogue also connects directly to the Kenway saga and to Unity through its treatment of events in colonial North America and France. The game's unusual perspective is its defining narrative feature: instead of controlling an Assassin opposing the Templars, the player controls a former Assassin who joins them.
