In Assassin's Creed Rogue, Shay Cormac becomes a Templar after a failed mission causes him to reject the Assassins.
Shay begins the game as an Assassin operating in the North Atlantic during the Seven Years' War. After a mission involving an ancient artifact leads to a devastating earthquake in Lisbon, he turns against the Brotherhood's willingness to pursue precursor sites despite the danger. The story then follows his recruitment by the Templars and his conflict with former allies.
Rogue is notable because it makes a former Assassin the playable central character while presenting the Templars as Shay's new faction. It also bridges stories from Assassin's Creed III, Black Flag, and Unity. The Morrigan, Shay's ship, supports exploration and naval combat in the North Atlantic and river regions.
Liam O'Brien is Shay's former Assassin colleague, while Adewalé and Arno belong to other games. Shay Cormac is the character whose allegiance changes during Rogue.
