In Assassin's Creed Rogue, which character becomes the game's playable Assassin-turned-Templar?

The story behind the answer

Shay Cormac is the playable Assassin-turned-Templar in Assassin's Creed Rogue.

Shay begins the game as a member of the Colonial Brotherhood of Assassins during the eighteenth century. After a disastrous mission involving an ancient artifact and a major earthquake, he loses faith in the Brotherhood's methods and leaves. He later joins the Templars and hunts former allies, reversing the usual perspective of the series.

Rogue is set mainly in the North Atlantic, the River Valley, and New York during the Seven Years' War. Its ship, the Morrigan, supports exploration in icy waters and introduces tools suited to naval combat. The story connects Rogue to Assassin's Creed III, Black Flag, and Unity.

Liam O'Brien is Shay's Assassin mentor and a separate character. Achilles Davenport leads the Colonial Assassins, while Charles Dorian belongs to Unity's backstory. Rogue was released in 2014, the same year as Unity, and is notable for making the Templar viewpoint central.
