In Assassin's Creed Rogue, what is the first name of the protagonist who leaves the Assassins?

The story behind the answer

Shay is the first name of the Assassin's Creed Rogue protagonist who leaves the Assassins.

Shay Patrick Cormac begins the story as an Assassin operating in the North Atlantic and North American colonies during the eighteenth century. After a disastrous mission and growing disagreement with the Brotherhood's methods, he turns against his former allies and joins the Templars. The game therefore presents the series' central conflict largely from a Templar-aligned perspective.

Shay is distinct from other characters whose names can sound similar in franchise summaries. He is not Shay Cuthbert, a side character from Assassin's Creed, and he is not Edward Kenway, the pirate protagonist of Black Flag. Rogue also connects narratively with Black Flag and Assassin's Creed III through its characters, locations, and historical period.
