In Assassin's Creed Revelations, which real historical city does Ezio visit as the game's main setting?

The story behind the answer

Constantinople is the main historical setting Ezio visits in Assassin's Creed Revelations.

The game takes Ezio Auditore to the Ottoman capital in the early sixteenth century. There he searches for Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad's lost memories and pieces of a key connected to the legendary library at Masyaf.

Constantinople is divided into districts influenced by Ottoman, Byzantine, and other local communities. The historical campaign also includes Cappadocia and Masyaf, but Constantinople remains the central city where Ezio meets characters such as Yusuf Tazim and interacts with the Ottoman succession struggle.

The city was officially renamed Istanbul in the twentieth century, long after the period depicted in the game. Using Constantinople is therefore historically appropriate for the setting's era. Rome belongs mainly to Brotherhood, Damascus is prominent in the original game, and Alexandria is important in Origins.
