In Assassin's Creed Revelations, Constantinople is the principal setting for Ezio's story.
Ezio travels to Constantinople, the capital of the Byzantine Empire, while searching for keys connected to Altaïr's former stronghold in Masyaf. The city is divided into districts and includes locations on both sides of the Golden Horn, giving the game a setting shaped by Byzantine and Ottoman history.
The story takes place in 1511, during the reign of Ottoman Sultan Bayezid II and the succession struggle involving his sons Selim and Şehzade Ahmet. Ezio works with Yusuf Tazim and the local Assassins while confronting Templar activity in the city.
Constantinople was officially renamed Istanbul in the early twentieth century, so modern readers may associate the location with its later name. The game uses Constantinople because that was the historical name and political context in Ezio's period. Revelations was released in 2011.
