In Assassin’s Creed Revelations, which historic city is known as Constantinople?

The story behind the answer

In Assassin’s Creed Revelations, the historic city called Constantinople is Istanbul.

The game is primarily set in Constantinople during the early sixteenth century, when the city was the capital of the Ottoman Empire. Modern Istanbul spans both Europe and Asia, separated by the Bosporus, and the game uses districts on the city’s historic peninsula and surrounding areas.

Ezio Auditore travels there while searching for Altaïr Ibn-La’Ahad’s lost library and the keys needed to open it. The story also brings Ezio into contact with Ottoman figures including Suleiman, who is presented as a young prince.

Constantinople remained a widely used historical name for the city in the game’s period. Istanbul became the official name used internationally by the twentieth century. Damascus is associated with the first Assassin’s Creed, while Alexandria is a major setting in Assassin’s Creed Origins.
