Most of Assassin's Creed Revelations is set in Constantinople, the historical name used for the city now called Istanbul.
The 2011 game follows an older Ezio Auditore as he searches for Altaïr's lost knowledge. Ezio arrives in Constantinople in 1511, during the final years of the Byzantine Empire, and becomes involved with the local Assassin Brotherhood. The city is divided into districts that players explore through missions, climbing, travel, and faction activities.
The game also includes the village of Masyaf and sequences set in Cappadocia. Constantinople was the capital of the Byzantine Empire and had been conquered by the Ottoman Sultan Mehmed II in 1453. In the game's period it was the Ottoman capital, although “Constantinople” remained the historical name commonly used in English. The modern city is officially Istanbul, a name that became standard internationally after the Ottoman and early Republican periods.
