Assassin’s Creed Revelations uses the historical name Constantinople for the city now commonly called Istanbul.
The game is set largely in Constantinople during the early sixteenth century, when the city was the capital of the Ottoman Empire. Ezio Auditore travels there to search for Altaïr Ibn-La’Ahad’s Masyaf keys and uncover the secrets connected to the older Assassin.
The city’s districts include Galata, Constantine, Beyazid, Imperial, and Cappadocia. The setting combines fictional Assassin missions with recognizable historical figures, including Suleiman the Magnificent, who is presented as a young Ottoman prince during the game’s events.
The name Istanbul is a common modern reference, but Constantinople is the name used throughout the game and reflects the period’s historical context. The city was officially renamed Istanbul in the twentieth century, long after the events depicted in Revelations.
