Siwa is the Egyptian oasis city that is the birthplace of Bayek in Assassin’s Creed Origins.
Bayek is a Medjay, a protector and law-enforcement figure in Ptolemaic Egypt. The game opens in Siwa, where Bayek returns after a period away and confronts forces connected to a masked order. The events there begin his personal search for those responsible for harming his family.
Origins is set in the first century BCE, during the reign of Cleopatra VII and the political struggle involving Ptolemy XIII and Julius Caesar. Bayek and his wife, Aya, become founders of the Hidden Ones, the organization that later develops into the Assassin Brotherhood.
Alexandria, Memphis, and Giza are also important places in the game, which can make the locations easy to mix up. Alexandria is a major cultural center, while Siwa is the remote western oasis most directly tied to Bayek’s identity and the opening of his story.
