In Assassin's Creed Origins, which ancient region is the main setting?
Answer
Ptolemaic Egypt
Answer
Ptolemaic Egypt
Ptolemaic Egypt is the main setting of Assassin's Creed Origins.
The game takes place in Egypt during the first century BCE, under the Ptolemaic Kingdom. Its protagonist, Bayek of Siwa, is a Medjay who becomes involved in the origins of the Hidden Ones, the historical organization that later develops into the Assassin Brotherhood. The story unfolds during the rule of Cleopatra and the growing influence of Julius Caesar.
The open world includes Alexandria, Memphis, Cyrene, Giza, the Nile Delta, and desert regions. These locations combine historical cities, temples, tombs, military forts, and natural landscapes. The setting is therefore broader than a single city, although Alexandria and other major centers are important to the campaign.
Ptolemaic Egypt is not the same setting as Assassin's Creed Odyssey, which is set mainly in Classical Greece during the fifth century BCE. Origins also differs from Assassin's Creed Mirage, whose principal historical setting is ninth-century Baghdad. The Egyptian setting explains the game's emphasis on pharaonic monuments and the transition between Egyptian, Greek, and Roman power.
