In Assassin's Creed Origins, which ancient civilization is Bayek associated with?

The story behind the answer

In Assassin's Creed Origins, Bayek is associated with Ancient Egypt.

Bayek of Siwa is a Medjay, a protector and law-enforcement figure, living in Egypt during the first century BCE. The game follows his investigation into the forces threatening his family and the political order of Ptolemaic Egypt. His experiences contribute to the formation of the Hidden Ones, the organization that later develops into the Assassin Brotherhood.

Origins presents a broad map containing deserts, villages, temples, tombs, and major cities such as Alexandria and Memphis. The setting combines Egyptian traditions with Greek and Roman influence because the Ptolemaic Kingdom was ruled by a Macedonian Greek dynasty and was later absorbed by Rome.

The game is set before the medieval stories of Altaïr and Ezio. It therefore depicts the origins of the Assassin tradition rather than an already established Brotherhood. Bayek's wife, Aya, is also central to the creation of the Hidden Ones.
