In Assassin's Creed Origins, what is the name of the protagonist who protects Egypt?

The story behind the answer

Bayek is the protagonist who protects Egypt in Assassin's Creed Origins.

Bayek of Siwa is a Medjay, a traditional Egyptian protector and lawkeeper. The game follows him and his wife, Aya, as they become involved in political struggles and investigate a group whose actions threaten people across Ptolemaic Egypt.

Origins is set during the first century BCE, primarily under the rule of Ptolemy XIII. Its story presents the early formation of the Hidden Ones, the organization that later becomes the Assassin Brotherhood. Bayek's personal motives and Aya's political connections both help shape that transition.

Bayek is sometimes confused with protagonists from newer games. Basim stars in Assassin's Creed Mirage, Kassandra is a central playable character in Odyssey, and Arno Dorian leads Unity. Origins also introduced a more expansive role-playing structure to the main series, including character levels, equipment, and a large Egyptian open world.
