Sparta is the historical Greek city-state associated with Kassandra, the protagonist of Assassin's Creed Odyssey.
Kassandra is presented as a Spartan mercenary and descendant of the Spartan king Leonidas I. The game begins on Kephallonia and later takes the player across the Aegean world during the Peloponnesian War, but Sparta remains central to her family history and identity.
Odyssey depicts a fictionalized version of fifth-century BCE Greece. It incorporates real places, political figures, and events while adding the series' Isu mythology, branching dialogue, and role-playing systems.
Players can choose Alexios instead of Kassandra as the playable character, but Ubisoft's modern canon identifies Kassandra as the canonical protagonist. Sparta should not be confused with Athens, which is another major location and political power represented in the game.
