In Assassin's Creed Odyssey, Sparta is Kassandra's childhood home.
Kassandra is raised in Sparta, one of the most powerful Greek city-states of the classical period. The game begins on the island of Kephallonia after she has been exiled, but the story repeatedly returns to her Spartan family history. Her memories of Sparta, her relationship with her mother Myrrine, and the role of her family in the city's society shape the central narrative.
Athens is another major location and is often confused with Sparta because both are central to the Peloponnesian War setting. Athens represents a rival political and cultural power, while Sparta is associated with its military society and its kings. Assassin's Creed Odyssey is set during the fifth century BCE, around the war between Athens and Sparta, and was released in 2018.
