In Assassin's Creed Odyssey, which ancient Greek war does the story take place during?

The story behind the answer

Assassin's Creed Odyssey takes place during the Peloponnesian War. This conflict between Athens and Sparta began in 431 BCE and continued, with interruptions, until 404 BCE, although the game's events cover a portion of that wider period.

The player character, either Kassandra or Alexios, is a misthios traveling through the Greek world. The campaign visits locations controlled or contested by Athens and Sparta, and the war provides the political and military background for quests, battles, and shifting alliances.

The game is not set during the Greco-Persian Wars, which occurred earlier, nor during the later Punic Wars between Rome and Carthage. Odyssey also includes fictional elements and mythological encounters, so it should not be treated as a literal historical record. Its historical setting is nevertheless anchored to classical Greece and includes real figures such as Socrates, Pericles, and Aspasia.
