In Assassin's Creed Mirage, the historic setting of Baghdad is in modern-day Iraq.
Mirage takes place mainly in ninth-century Baghdad during the Islamic Golden Age. The city is the capital of the Abbasid Caliphate and serves as the center of Basim Ibn Ishaq's journey from street thief to Hidden One. The game depicts districts such as the Round City, Abbasiyah and Karkh through a fictionalized historical recreation.
Baghdad was founded in 762 by the Abbasid caliph al-Mansur. Its circular planned core became famous as the Round City, although the surviving modern city has developed far beyond that original design. Mirage uses the historical city's intellectual, political and commercial importance as a major part of its setting.
The game is set centuries before the events of Assassin's Creed Valhalla, where Basim also appears. Unlike many later open-world entries, Mirage focuses on stealth, investigation and a more compact city structure.
