Baghdad is the main historical setting of Assassin's Creed Mirage.
Mirage takes place in ninth-century Baghdad during the Islamic Golden Age, with the city presented as the center of Basim Ibn Ishaq's story. Basim begins as a street thief before joining the Hidden Ones and receiving training that changes his role in the city and in the wider Assassin–Order conflict.
The game depicts districts, markets, institutions, and landmarks inspired by Abbasid Baghdad. Its setting is narrower than the broad geographic journeys of several earlier Assassin's Creed games, allowing the city itself to remain central to exploration, investigation, and parkour.
Baghdad can be confused with other Middle Eastern settings in the franchise. Jerusalem is a major location in the first Assassin's Creed, Damascus also appears there, and Constantinople is the main setting of Revelations. Mirage specifically returns to Baghdad and explores Basim's earlier life before his later appearances.
