In Assassin's Creed Mirage, which medieval city is the principal setting for Basim Ibn Ishaq's story?

The story behind the answer

Baghdad is the principal setting for Basim Ibn Ishaq's story in Assassin's Creed Mirage.

Mirage is set in ninth-century Baghdad during the Islamic Golden Age. Basim begins as a street thief before joining the Hidden Ones and receiving training as an Assassin. The city's districts, markets, scholarly institutions, and political centers provide the main spaces for his investigation into a conspiracy connected to the Order of the Ancients.

The game depicts Anbar, Abbasiyah, Harbiyah, Karkh, Round City, and the surrounding wilderness as distinct areas. Its portrayal draws on the Abbasid period, when Baghdad was a major center of government, trade, scholarship, and culture. The historical House of Wisdom is also associated with the game's intellectual setting, though the narrative combines historical elements with fiction.

Basim first appeared as a major character in Assassin's Creed Valhalla, which is set centuries later. Mirage serves as a prequel to that story and presents his earlier life. Baghdad should not be confused with Damascus, which is one of the major cities in the first Assassin's Creed game.
