In Assassin's Creed Mirage, Basim's starting home is Anbar.
Anbar is a district of ninth-century Baghdad and the place where Basim begins the game as a street thief. His life changes after he encounters the Hidden Ones and leaves Anbar for training at their fortress in Alamut. The opening establishes Basim’s ambitions, fears, and connection to the larger Assassin tradition.
The game later centers on Baghdad during the Islamic Golden Age, but Anbar is specifically Basim’s starting neighborhood. This distinction matters because the city’s districts are not interchangeable: the Round City, Karkh, Abbasiyah, and other areas represent different parts of Baghdad’s urban and intellectual life.
Mirage is set in the ninth century, before the events of Assassin's Creed Valhalla that introduced Basim to many players. Masyaf belongs to the Levantine setting of the original game, while Samarra is a different historical city in Abbasid Iraq.
