Baghdad is the primary setting for Basim's early Assassin story in Assassin's Creed Mirage.
Mirage takes place in ninth-century Baghdad during the Islamic Golden Age. Basim begins as a street thief in Anbar before joining the Hidden Ones, the historical organization that later becomes associated with the Assassin Brotherhood. The game follows his training and missions as he moves through the Abbasid capital and its surrounding districts.
The city is organized around major historical and fictional locations, including the Round City, which was founded by the Abbasid caliph al-Mansur in the eighth century. Baghdad's scholarly, commercial, and political importance gives the setting a strong connection to the period's intellectual and urban history.
Mirage is sometimes mistaken for a Damascus-centered game because Damascus is a major location in the original Assassin's Creed. Cairo belongs more closely to later historical settings in the franchise, while Constantinople is the central city in Revelations. Mirage was released in 2023 and intentionally returns to a more focused stealth-oriented structure.
