Baghdad is Basim's main home and the central setting of Assassin's Creed Mirage.
Mirage takes place in ninth-century Baghdad during the Islamic Golden Age. Basim begins as a street thief in the city before leaving for Alamut and joining the Hidden Ones. He later returns to Baghdad as an Assassin, investigating a conspiracy tied to the Order of the Ancients.
The game divides Baghdad into districts, including the Round City, Abbasiyah, Harbiyah, and Karkh. Historical figures and institutions from the Abbasid period help frame the story, although the narrative is a fictional adventure rather than a complete historical account.
Baghdad can be confused with Damascus, which is a major setting in the first Assassin's Creed, or with Cairo, a prominent city in Origins. Mirage's focus on one compact historical city was designed to emphasize stealth, investigation, and parkour.
