In Assassin's Creed Mirage, Basim Ibn Ishaq is the central protagonist before becoming a Hidden One.
Mirage follows Basim's early life as a street thief in ninth-century Anbar and Baghdad. After encountering the Hidden Ones, he leaves his old life behind, trains under Roshan, and develops into an initiate whose investigations take him through Abbasid-era Baghdad.
The game serves as a prequel to Assassin's Creed Valhalla, where Basim appears as an older and more mysterious character. Mirage therefore gives players additional context for his motives, relationships, and transformation.
Hytham is a fellow Hidden One associated with Basim in Valhalla, while Roshan is Basim's mentor in Mirage. Al-Mualim belongs to the original game's historical setting and is a different Brotherhood leader. These connections make the names easy to mix up, but Basim is the playable lead.
