In Assassin's Creed Mirage, Basim begins his story in the settlement of Anbar.
Anbar is a settlement near Baghdad where Basim lives as a street thief before joining the Hidden Ones. His early life there introduces his friendship with Nehal and his recurring visions. After a confrontation with the Order of the Ancients, Basim leaves Anbar and travels with Roshan to the Hidden Ones' stronghold at Alamut.
Mirage was released in 2023 and is set in ninth-century Baghdad during the Islamic Golden Age. Its structure and stealth emphasis deliberately recall earlier Assassin's Creed games, while its story provides Basim's background before his role in Assassin's Creed Valhalla.
Baghdad is the principal city and setting of most of the game, so it is a frequent answer to questions about Mirage's location. Anbar, however, is the specific settlement where Basim's opening life takes place.
