Answer
The Golden Age of Piracy in the Caribbean
Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag frames Edward Kenway's adventure during the Golden Age of Piracy in the Caribbean.
The game is set in the early eighteenth century, when pirates, privateers, merchants, and naval powers competed across the Caribbean Sea. Edward Kenway is a Welsh privateer who becomes a pirate and is drawn into the Assassin-Templar conflict after taking the identity of another man.
Players sail the Jackdaw between locations including Havana, Nassau, and Kingston. Naval exploration, ship combat, boarding actions, underwater wrecks, and sea shanties are major parts of the game, making the Caribbean setting more central than in earlier entries.
Black Flag is a prequel to Assassin's Creed III in its historical chronology. Edward is also the father of Haytham Kenway and grandfather of Ratonhnhaké:ton, known as Connor, linking the game to the Kenway family storyline.
