In Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, what is the name of the pirate protagonist who becomes involved with the Assassins?

The story behind the answer

In Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, the pirate protagonist who becomes involved with the Assassins is Edward Kenway.

Edward is a Welsh privateer and pirate active in the Caribbean during the early eighteenth century. He takes the identity of an Assassin, becomes entangled in a conflict between Assassins and Templars, and gradually changes from a self-interested adventurer into a committed member of the Brotherhood.

The game combines naval exploration, ship-to-ship combat, island travel, and stealth missions. Edward's ship is the Jackdaw, which he upgrades throughout the story. His companions include the historical pirate Edward Thatch, better known as Blackbeard.

Edward Kenway is also the father of Haytham Kenway and the grandfather of Ratonhnhaké:ton, linking Black Flag to Assassin's Creed III. Adéwalé is an important ally, but he is not the game's principal protagonist.
