In Assassin's Creed III, which Mohawk-born Assassin becomes the playable protagonist known as Connor?

The story behind the answer

In Assassin's Creed III, Ratonhnhaké:ton is the Mohawk-born Assassin who becomes known as Connor.

Ratonhnhaké:ton is born in the Kanien'kehá:ka community of Kanatahséton, in the Mohawk Valley. After becoming involved with the Assassin Brotherhood, he adopts the name Connor, partly to make it easier for others to pronounce and remember. The game uses both names at different points, which can create confusion about whether they identify separate characters.

Connor's story unfolds during the American Revolution. He works with the Assassin mentor Achilles Davenport and becomes entangled with figures such as George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, and Charles Lee. His mixed British and Mohawk heritage is central to the game's conflicts and themes.

Connor is not the same character as Desmond Miles, who remains the modern-day protagonist. Ratonhnhaké:ton is the historical-era hero whose memories Desmond experiences through the Animus.
