In Assassin's Creed III, which historical figure is the protagonist's father?

The story behind the answer

In Assassin's Creed III, Haytham Kenway is the historical-fiction protagonist's father.

The game's main protagonist is Ratonhnhaké:ton, also known by the name Connor. Haytham is introduced at the beginning of the story and initially appears to be the central character, but the narrative later shifts to Connor. Their family relationship becomes a major source of tension because father and son stand on opposing sides of the Assassin–Templar conflict.

Haytham is a Templar Grand Master in the American Colonies, while Connor becomes an Assassin. Both characters are involved in events surrounding the American Revolution, though their motives and loyalties differ. Their relationship is one of the game's central dramatic threads.

Edward Kenway, the hero of Black Flag, is Haytham's father and Connor's grandfather. Charles Lee is a Templar ally and historical figure, not Haytham's son or father. George Washington and Samuel Adams appear in the historical setting but are not part of the Kenway family.
