In Assassin's Creed III, which historical city serves as the main urban setting for the game's Boston missions?

The story behind the answer

In Assassin's Creed III, Boston serves as the main urban setting for the game's Boston missions.

The game is set during the American Revolution and follows two linked protagonists: Haytham Kenway in the opening chapters and Ratonhnhaké:ton, also known as Connor, in the main story. Boston is one of the major cities where Connor investigates Templar activity and becomes involved with revolutionary events.

The Boston map includes locations and events inspired by the eighteenth-century city, including the Boston Massacre. New York is another major urban setting, while the frontier provides forests, settlements, hunting grounds, and travel routes between the cities.

The game should not be confused with the later Assassin's Creed Liberation, which also uses an American colonial setting. Assassin's Creed III's historical campaign covers the years surrounding the Revolution, while Desmond's modern-day storyline continues the series' central conflict.
