In Assassin's Creed III, what is the name of the game's sailing ship?

The story behind the answer

The sailing ship in Assassin's Creed III is named Aquila.

Ratonhnhaké:ton, also known as Connor, uses the Aquila during naval missions in the North Atlantic and along the eastern coast of North America. The ship gives the game a major maritime component alongside its land-based story during the American Revolutionary War.

Players can steer the Aquila, fire its cannons, manage its movement and fight enemy vessels. These missions helped establish ship-based gameplay as an important feature of later Assassin's Creed titles. They are separate from the open-world pirate focus of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag.

The name can be confused with other ships in the series. Edward Kenway commands the Jackdaw in Black Flag, while Shay Cormac uses the Morrigan in Assassin's Creed Rogue. Aquila is specifically associated with Connor's campaign and its colonial American setting.
