Ubisoft released Assassin's Creed II in 2009.
The game launched in November 2009 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, with a Windows release in March 2010. It followed the 2007 original and replaced Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad with Ezio Auditore da Firenze, whose life unfolds across Renaissance Italy. The sequel added broader exploration, economic upgrades, more varied missions, and a larger selection of weapons and abilities.
The date can be confused with 2010 because the Windows version and later editions arrived that year. The original console release, which establishes the game's official launch date, was in 2009. Assassin's Creed II also began the Ezio trilogy, followed by Brotherhood in 2010 and Revelations in 2011. Those closely spaced releases helped make Ezio one of the franchise's best-known protagonists.
