In Assassin’s Creed II, Leonardo da Vinci helps Ezio by designing and improving his equipment.
Leonardo is portrayed as Ezio Auditore’s friend and inventive ally. After Ezio brings him pages from the Codex, Leonardo studies the designs and helps turn them into practical tools. These include upgrades to Ezio’s hidden blades and other equipment used during missions. The fictional relationship places Leonardo within the game’s broader Renaissance setting while preserving his reputation as an artist, engineer, and inventor.
The historical Leonardo da Vinci lived from 1452 to 1519 and was associated with Florence, Milan, and other Italian centers. Assassin’s Creed II fictionalizes his interactions with Ezio, so the game should not be treated as a documentary account of Leonardo’s life. Michelangelo, Raphael, and Donatello were also major Italian Renaissance artists, but they are not the character who serves as Ezio’s principal equipment designer in the game.
