In Assassin's Creed II, which Italian city contains Ezio Auditore's family home at the start of the story?

The story behind the answer

Florence contains Ezio Auditore’s family home at the start of Assassin’s Creed II.

Ezio begins the game as a young nobleman in Renaissance Florence. The Auditore family lives in the city’s Santa Maria Novella district, where Ezio’s early life, rivalry with Vieri de’ Pazzi, and family tragedy are introduced. These events set him on the path toward becoming an Assassin.

Florence is one of several major Italian locations in the game. Ezio later travels to Monteriggioni, Tuscany, Venice, Forlì, and other locations while confronting the Pazzi conspiracy and the wider Templar network.

Monteriggioni becomes an important refuge and headquarters later in the story, but it is not Ezio’s family home at the opening. Venice is another major setting, yet Ezio reaches it after his early Florentine chapters.
