In Assassin's Creed II, the Italian Assassin protagonist's first name is Ezio.
Ezio Auditore da Firenze is introduced as a young Florentine nobleman in late-15th-century Italy. After his family is executed through a political conspiracy, Ezio becomes involved with the Assassin Brotherhood and seeks justice against those responsible. His story develops across Florence, Monteriggioni, Venice, and other Renaissance locations.
Ezio is sometimes confused with Desmond Miles, the modern-day character who experiences Ezio's memories through the Animus. The game also introduces Ezio's sister Claudia and his uncle Mario, but neither is the playable Renaissance protagonist.
Ezio's story continues in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood and Assassin's Creed: Revelations, making him one of the series' most extensively developed characters. His full name, Ezio Auditore da Firenze, identifies both his first name and his Florentine origin.
