Rome is Ezio Auditore's principal base of operations in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood.
The game takes place chiefly in Rome during the early sixteenth century, after the events of Assassin's Creed II. The city is dominated by the Borgia family, whose political and military power has weakened the local Assassin Brotherhood. Ezio travels there to confront Cesare Borgia and rebuild the organization.
Rome functions as the game's main open world rather than merely serving as one stop among many. Ezio can liberate districts, recruit new Assassins, restore shops and landmarks, and weaken Borgia influence. The city includes famous locations such as the Colosseum, the Pantheon, and the Castel Sant'Angelo.
Players sometimes answer Florence because it is central to Ezio's earlier story, or Vatican City because the Vatican appears in the game. The relevant city-wide setting for Brotherhood's campaign is Rome, with some missions taking place outside the main urban area.
