Rome is the city controlled by the Borgia family in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood.
The game follows Ezio Auditore as he works to weaken the Borgia influence in Renaissance Rome. Rodrigo Borgia is the series' major Templar antagonist, while his son Cesare commands military and political power in the city. Ezio establishes and rebuilds an Assassin network across Rome, recruiting allies and liberating districts from Borgia control.
Brotherhood is largely set in one expanded urban environment, unlike Assassin's Creed II, which moves between several principal Italian cities. The Roman setting includes famous landmarks and districts that players can gradually restore. The city also contains the Vatican and the Castel Sant'Angelo, both important to the story.
Released in 2010, Brotherhood introduced or expanded systems such as Assassin recruits, their coordinated attacks, and multiplayer modes. It continues Ezio's story directly after the events of Assassin's Creed II and precedes Assassin's Creed: Revelations.
