In Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, Rome is the primary setting for Ezio Auditore's campaign.
The game takes place largely in Renaissance Rome, where Ezio works to weaken the Borgia family's control and rebuild the Assassin Brotherhood. The city is presented as a large interconnected environment containing districts, monuments, shops, missions, and restricted areas.
Brotherhood follows directly from the events of Assassin's Creed II. Ezio's conflict is focused on Cesare Borgia and Rodrigo Borgia, whose historical identities are incorporated into the game's fictionalized narrative. The campaign also includes sections outside Rome, including Monteriggioni and Spain, but Rome remains the central location.
A notable feature is the ability to recruit and train new Assassins, then call them into missions. Brotherhood also introduced the series' first competitive online multiplayer mode. Its Roman setting should not be confused with Revelations, which primarily takes place in Constantinople, or Assassin's Creed II, which moves among several Italian cities.
