In Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, Ezio Auditore is tasked with liberating Rome from the Borgia.
The game is set primarily in Rome during the early sixteenth century. Cesare Borgia and his family control much of the city through military power, political influence, and the activities of the Templar Order. Ezio works to weaken that control by rebuilding the Assassin Brotherhood and helping Roman districts resist Borgia rule.
Rome is not merely a backdrop in Brotherhood. Its districts can be restored, shops can be reopened, and monuments can be repaired as Ezio's influence grows. The city also contains important historical landmarks, including the Colosseum, the Pantheon, and Castel Sant'Angelo.
Brotherhood continues the story of Assassin's Creed II and follows Ezio after the events in Monteriggioni. Although Ezio visits other locations during the broader series, Rome is the distinctive central setting of this installment and the city associated with the campaign against the Borgia.
