In Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, Ezio controls Rome as an Assassin.
Rome is the main open-world setting of Brotherhood, and Ezio works to weaken the Borgia family's influence across the city. Players reclaim districts by eliminating Borgia control, renovating shops and landmarks, and recruiting citizens into the growing Brotherhood.
The game continues Ezio's story after Assassin's Creed II. It introduces a more developed system for recruiting and training Assassins, who can be called into missions or sent on assignments across Europe. Ezio also confronts Cesare Borgia, one of the campaign's principal antagonists.
Florence and Venice remain strongly associated with Ezio because they are major locations in Assassin's Creed II. Brotherhood, however, concentrates its main city-based gameplay in Rome, with additional sequences taking place elsewhere.
