In Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, which ancient city serves as the main open-world setting?

The story behind the answer

In Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, Rome is the main open-world setting.

The 2010 game continues Ezio Auditore's story after Assassin's Creed II. Its campaign centers on Rome, where Ezio works to weaken the Borgia family's control and rebuild the Assassin Brotherhood. Players can explore districts, restore landmarks, and recruit allies across the city.

Rome was especially suitable for the game's historical setting because it combined ancient ruins, papal power, Renaissance politics, and major monuments. The fictionalized map includes locations inspired by sites such as the Colosseum and the Pantheon.

This should not be confused with Florence or Venice, which are prominent cities in Assassin's Creed II. Brotherhood is the Ezio game primarily built around one large Rome map.
