In 2008's Twilight, Bella's mother moves with her new husband to Jacksonville, Florida, after Bella moves to Forks. Bella leaves sunny Phoenix, Arizona, to live with her father, Charlie Swan, in rainy Forks, Washington.
Bella's mother, Renée, has married Phil Dwyer, a minor-league baseball player whose career keeps him traveling. Bella realizes that her move to Forks will allow Renée and Phil to spend more time together. Phil later signs with the Jacksonville Suns, giving the couple a more settled home in Jacksonville.
The city becomes an important off-screen location in the saga. Renée repeatedly encourages Bella to move to Florida, especially after Bella's dangerous encounter with James. Bella refuses because she wants to remain in Forks with Charlie and Edward Cullen. A common mix-up is Phoenix, where Renée initially lives, or Forks, where Bella lives; Jacksonville is the later home of Renée and Phil.
