In the 2007 film Transformers, Optimus Prime claims the motto “Freedom is the right of all sentient beings.” The line reflects his role as the principled leader of the Autobots and defender of living beings, whether organic or mechanical.
Optimus Prime is the Autobots’ commander and the principal opponent of Megatron, leader of the Decepticons. In the film, the two factions are drawn into a conflict on Earth over the AllSpark, a powerful object capable of giving life to machines. Optimus seeks to keep it from Megatron, whose goal is domination.
The motto originated in earlier Transformers material and became one of Optimus Prime’s signature quotations. The 2007 movie, directed by Michael Bay, brought the franchise to live action and starred Peter Cullen as Optimus’s voice. Cullen had also voiced the character in the original animated series and 1986 animated film.
