How old is Grogu when Din Djarin is hired to retrieve him?

The story behind the answer

Grogu is 50 years old when Din Djarin is hired to retrieve him.

In the first episode, the Bounty Hunters’ Guild sends Din Djarin after a mysterious 50-year-old “asset.” Din eventually discovers that the target is an infant from Yoda’s species, then chooses to protect him instead of completing the delivery for the Imperial client.

Grogu’s age is one of the character’s central mysteries. Although he is physically an infant, his species ages much more slowly than humans. That explains why a character who looks like a baby can already possess extraordinary Force abilities and retain memories connected to the Jedi Order. His small size does not indicate that he is only a few human years old.

The character was initially identified in the story and marketing as “the Child,” while viewers commonly called him “Baby Yoda.” Ahsoka Tano reveals his actual name, Grogu, in the second season’s “Chapter 13: The Jedi.” The series later establishes that Grogu was trained at the Jedi Temple before surviving the Great Jedi Purge, adding history behind the apparently helpless target Din was hired to find.
