Colin McRae won 25 World Rally Championship events during his career. His first WRC victory came at the 1993 Rally New Zealand, driving for Subaru, and his final win was the 2002 Safari Rally with Ford.
McRae became world champion in 1995, the first British driver to win the WRC drivers’ title. He was known for spectacular speed and an aggressive approach, but his record also included 42 podium finishes and 460 stage wins. He competed in 146 WRC rallies across a career that included Subaru, Ford, Citroën and Škoda.
His 25 victories were accumulated across 11 seasons of regular WRC competition. Subaru’s success during McRae’s peak also helped the team win three consecutive manufacturers’ championships from 1995 through 1997. McRae finished runner-up in the drivers’ standings in both 1997 and 2001.
The figure is sometimes confused with championship titles or stage wins. McRae won one drivers’ championship, 25 complete WRC events and hundreds of individual stages.
