The 'Saturday Night Fever' soundtrack spent 24 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.
Released in November 1977, the double album became one of the defining records of the disco era. It combined several Bee Gees recordings with songs by artists including Yvonne Elliman, Walter Murphy, Tavares, and the Trammps. The Bee Gees’ “Stayin’ Alive,” “How Deep Is Your Love,” and “Night Fever” helped make the soundtrack a major pop phenomenon.
The album led the U.S. album chart for 24 consecutive weeks from January through July 1978 and remained on the Billboard album chart for 120 weeks. That run is sometimes confused with the soundtrack’s total chart longevity: 24 weeks refers specifically to its time at No. 1, not its total time on the chart.
The album’s success also helped turn the film’s music into a cultural landmark. It won the Grammy for Album of the Year and became one of the best-selling soundtracks ever released. Its scale is why the record is often discussed alongside landmark chart-topping albums such as 'Thriller' and 'Rumours'.
