How many USB ports are built into the original Nintendo Switch dock?

The story behind the answer

The original Nintendo Switch dock has three built-in USB ports.

Two of those ports are located on the side of the dock, while a third is found inside the rear cable compartment. They can be used with compatible accessories such as wired controllers, charging equipment, and other USB devices supported by the console’s software and hardware.

The dock’s other major connections include an HDMI port for television output and a USB-C power connection. The dock is not merely a stand: it connects the console to power and a display while also providing these additional ports.

The original dock should be distinguished from the OLED Model dock. The OLED dock keeps three USB ports but adds a built-in LAN port for wired networking. Counting only USB ports, however, both dock designs have the same total. The USB-C connector used to power the dock is not counted among the three USB ports.
