Five U.S. territories contributed material to America250’s national time capsule.
The capsule collection represents contributions from all 50 states, Washington, D.C., and five U.S. territories. Each contribution was intended to preserve a record of local history, identity, culture, innovation, and community life.
The inclusion of territories gives the project a broader civic scope than a collection limited to the 50 states. Washington, D.C., is counted separately from the territories in the official description.
The capsule was created as a national record for future generations and was buried in Philadelphia during the 2026 anniversary year. Its planned opening in 2276 gives the collected materials a five-century historical horizon.
