How many tracks are on the standard edition of Metallica's self-titled album, known as The Black Album?

The story behind the answer

The standard edition of Metallica's self-titled album, known as The Black Album, contains 12 tracks.

The sequence opens with “Enter Sandman” and closes with “My Friend of Misery.” Between them are “Sad but True,” “Holier Than Thou,” “The Unforgiven,” “Wherever I May Roam,” “Don't Tread on Me,” “Through the Never,” “Nothing Else Matters,” and “Of Wolf and Man.”

The original vinyl configuration divided the 12 songs across four sides: tracks 1–3 appeared on Side A, tracks 4–6 on Side B, tracks 7–9 on Side C, and tracks 10–12 on Side D. That arrangement differs from later expanded editions, which include bonus material.

The count can be confused with the number of commercial singles or music videos associated with the album. Five songs were released as singles, while the standard album itself has twice that number of tracks plus two.
