As of 2024, the Open Championship had been held at Royal Troon 10 times. These ten men's Opens took place on the club's Old Course in 1923, 1950, 1962, 1973, 1982, 1989, 1997, 2004, 2016, and 2024.
Royal Troon is a links course in Troon, South Ayrshire, Scotland. Its Old Course runs beside the Firth of Clyde and is especially famous for the short par-three eighth hole, known as the Postage Stamp. Before the first Open at Troon in 1923, James Braid redesigned and strengthened the course for championship play.
A possible source of confusion is the 2020 Women's Open, also played at Royal Troon. Counting that event produces 11 Open Championships hosted by the club, but only 10 men's Open Championships had been held there by 2024. The 2024 tournament was won by Xander Schauffele, who defeated Justin Rose and Billy Horschel by two strokes.
