How many times can Nook’s Cranny be upgraded in New Horizons? The answer is once.
In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Nook’s Cranny has one permanent upgrade: the original shop expands into a larger version after the player has used it for at least 30 days and spent at least 200,000 Bells on qualifying purchases. Timmy and Tommy continue running the shop, but the expanded building offers more furniture, tools, wallpaper, flooring, and other daily goods.
This limited upgrade path is easy to confuse with earlier Animal Crossing games. In those titles, Tom Nook’s store could progress through multiple forms, eventually becoming a large department store such as Nookington’s. New Horizons deliberately simplifies the system, so the shop does not continue through several additional stages.
The upgraded store is separate from Resident Services and from the player’s house expansions. Later game updates added more island activities and returning characters, but they did not create a second or third Nook’s Cranny upgrade.
